Manager Brian Hughes has stepped into the breach to lead the fight to save Witney Town.

Town's boss has called a meeting at Witney Lakes Golf Club tomorrow (7.30pm) in an attempt to find a buyer or to set up a board of directors.

He is urging all businessmen interested in seeing the club survive to go along and listen to his vision for the future.

Town are on the market for a reported £350,000, with chief executive Brian Constable saying he will no longer back the club after the end of the season. He has warned that if a board of directors can't be formed or a buyer found, then Witney could be wound up on May 7.

Now Hughes has taken him at his word, and is aiming to launch a rescue bid.

He said: "We've got one bullet left in the gun and if we don't fire it at the right time, we will have no football. We will be finished.

"The meeting is for anyone who is interested in getting involved. I know half a dozen people anyway."

"I have got a ten-point list of reasons why people might want to buy it and I just want to try and sell it.".

"We are in the position where serious action needs to be taken. I have taken it upon myself and if he can find someone, then great, if we can't, I can walk away with my head held high because at least I couldn't do any more.

Meanwhile, Witney are in danger of finding themselves dragged into a relegation battle in the Eastern Division following four successive defeats.

They have a swift return tonight at local rivals Banbury United following their 2-1 defeat by Kevin Brock's side on Saturday.
