A Ford Orion struck a garden wall as it was being followed by police.

The male driver and a female passenger escaped unhurt in the crash, which happened on Sunday afternoon in Sandringham Road, Didcot, at the junction with Stonesfield.

Thames Valley Police said the police car driven by Sgt Irfon Rees of Wallingford was not pursuing the Ford Orion.

He added that the two vehicles were out of sight of each other when the crash occurred.

Insp Ian Beckett of Didcot said: "Sgt Rees had been travelling towards Wallingford on the A417 when he spotted the driver of the car, whom he suspected of having no driving documents.

"He turned round to follow the Ford Orion towards Didcot, but there was a considerable distance between the two vehicles."

The incident has been recorded as a police accident.

It will be investigated by officers from Thames Valley Traffic Department.
