Indian film buffs are being enticed to the charms of Oxfordshire, following the release of a guide to 'Bollywood' movie locations.

Bicester Village shopping centre and Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, are among the attractions featured on a new map listing screen locations for Asian film makers. Both venues are set to be used as backdrops for elaborate song-and-dance routines in Bombay-made blockbusters, and are likely to attract devotees of the films and their stars.

The Bollywood Movie Map of Britain, which has been published by the British Tourist Board, is expected to spark huge interest on the sub-continent.The BTA has distributed 20,000 copies of the map in India in the hope that it will help revive tourism.

Around 180,000 Indians visit Britain each year, although the number is set to rise following the Indian film industry's use of British landmarks as movie locations. The movie Khabi Kushi Khabi Gham will be filmed on location at Blenheim Palace over the next four weeks, and is already causing excitement among film fans.

Helen Walch, the palace's deputy administrator, said: "We are delighted to be included on the map. Anything that boosts the tourist industry is good not just for us but for Woodstock, bed and breakfasts and other local businesses.

"It is not really surprising that we were chosen as a location. Bollywood movies have the most sumptuous locations and this is as sumptuous as you can get. It is an extraordinarily beautiful backdrop, and the palace is a dramatic building that lends itself to all sorts of things." She assured visitors that the palace was open for business despite the foot and mouth crisis, and insisted film fans would be welcome.

Miss Welch added: "We have had a lot of enquiries from the Indian subcontinent and Indian people in Europe who are aware that the movie is coming here, and wondering if they are able to come, which of course they are. I hope they will love it."

A Bicester Tourist Information Centre spokesman was surprised the shopping centre was being marketed as a movie location. She said: "We get lots of foreign tourists at Bicester Village but they come for the shopping and that is all."

Bombay has the largest film industry in the world making 800 films a year, watched by 15 million Indians a day.
