Chinnor may chasing league honours this season, but they will still be 'up' for their delayed David Charles Oxfordshire Cup quarter-final tie against Henley at Iffley Road tonight (Wed, 7.30)

Ben ThompsonThat's the message of Chinnor coach Lynn Evans, who has seen his side move to within one win of promotion in South West 2 East this season.

"We may be doing well in the league, but that doesn't mean we don't want to win the cup," said Evans. "We want to keep winning."

Chinnor have edged home in the two previous cup contests between the clubs since Henley fielded their second team in this competition.

"Henley have some very talented players and play with more abandon as they're not competing for league points every week," said Evans.

If Chinnor are to win, it will be through their strong pack, although they suffered a blow on Saturday when hooker Tim Jackson dislocated a shoulder. Tom Whelan is his replacement.

The good news for Chinnor is that Ben Thompson is back at fly-half, as he is not required by Exeter University.

At half-back he should be partnering James Walkinshaw, but the young scrum half actually returns from a ski-ing holiday today.

Should Walkinshaw not return in time, Conor Begley will switch to scrum half, with one of the two named right wings switching flanks.

Chinnor skipper James Davies, who is sidelined by a shoulder injury, said: "I reckon we're 30-point better side than we were last season."

Henley, whose team is chosen from those who regularly play for the Hawks second team will be hoping to prove him wrong.

This match should have been played at Henley last month, but one postponement, plus the clubs' failure to agree a suitable weekend date, means that the game had to be played in midweek under lights.

The wide open spaces of Iffley Road could suit Henley's talened backs such as Danny Batty and the Osman brothers, but the side will have to cope with Chinnor's harder edge and tactical know-how.

The winners of this tie will be away to Witney in the semi-final on Sunday, with Banbury having already booked their place in the final at Iffley Road on Tuesday, April 10.
