Oxfordshire has been recognised for its integrated transport system, including the controversial Oxford Transport Strategy.
The Government's Centre of Excellence Award establishes the county council as a model of best practice and will now share its expertise at conferences, web links and visits.
It will also develop greater links with Oxford and Oxford Brookes Universities to promote transport planning as a profession and provide examples of how national transport policy is being put into action.
Oxfordshire's Local Transport Plan, which sets out transport proposals for the next five years, has received the highest funding allocation per head of any county in the south east - £85m over five years.
David Young, director of environmental services at the county council, said: "This recognises the commitment and hard work the county council puts into delivering integrated transport planning across Oxfordshire.
"This is something it is doing in close partnership with the district councils and with transport providers, especially the bus operators."
