In November, more than 150 students auditioned for a role in the production. The school's head of music, Sean Frankcom, said: "It was like an episode of Popstars. We had all the emotions from tears to laughter and in the end I had to play the Nasty Nigel role.

"Eventually, we whittled the numbers down and there are some stunning performances from the cast of nearly 50."

The school's headteacher, Patrick Sanders, said: "Burford School's public performances have a justifiable reputation for excellence and I am certain that Grease will enhance this reputation."
