More than 30,000 tickets for Radiohead's summer gig in Oxford have already been sold.

Fans have been desperate to get their hands on the £27.50 tickets since they went on sale on Friday.

While Oxford fans were able to queue up for tickets, others struggled with a national ticketline and an Internet site.

Wheatley band Supergrass and American singer Beck are also on the bill, together with a number of other local acts, who are still being selected. Radiohead spokesman Cathy St Luce confirmed: "About 30,000 tickets have gone already. The rest will go fast."

Fans queued for hours outside the Zodiac Club in Cowley Road to make sure they would be able to get into the Oxfordshire band's gig at South Park on July 7. The capacity for the event is 40,000.

Nick Moorbath, the club manager who has been helping to organise the concert, said: "We have been guaranteed 5,000 tickets in Oxford and we have about 700 left, but they are going fast so people need to get down here quick. The 30,000 tickets sold includes our allocation. It's pretty amazing when you consider there was very little national advertising.

"The remaining tickets we have here at the club, and those on sale on the ticketline 0870 730 7305 or through the web, will probably go in the next few days."

He said the Zodiac box office would be open between 1pm and 6pm every day except Sunday.

Proceeds from the concert will go to local charities, although it has not yet been revealed which organisations will benefit.

Radiohead's new single, Pyramid Song , will be out on May 21, with the new album, Amnesiac, following on June 4.
