Andy King, manager of Swindon Town, United's rivals in distress, believes it is unfair that four clubs are earmarked for relegation from Division 2 when only three go down from the top two divisions.
Swindon have reached 40 points but this season it may need one of the highest ever points totals to stay up.
"I had thought 50 points was a guideline, but who can say?" King said. "If you get 50 points and still go down then you're very unfortunate.
"I can't believe this is the only league where four teams go down. That shows you how tough it is in this division. It is unfair and I don't think it's right."
