A belly dancer, flapper girls, an Ali G lookalike and assorted 'prison' convicts spent most of Sunday on a pub crawl.

In a flamboyant range of fancy dress, more than 30 customers of The Sprat pub, Hagbourne Road, Didcot, dropped in at nine pubs and three clubs during a bucket collection.

The cash raised will go to the Silver Star special care baby unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

The annual event was started three years ago by young Didcot mothers Natalie Hilton and Emma Creed who attended the unit.

This year, two more mothers who have attended the unit - Tracy Brinton, 26, who works behind the bar at The Sprat, and her friend Sarah Cullum, 28, planned the pub crawl, which was followed by a raffle and karaoke evening.

Miss Brinton, who dressed up as the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz, said: "The pub manager Colin Sheppard who joined in the pub crawl and customers have been wonderful."

She said they hoped to raise more than £1,000 to go towards a £110,000 ultrasound scanner for the Silver Star unit.

The first two pub crawls raised a total of £3,000.
