Music lovers are being urged to support local charities by joining a "spectacular" night of entertainment.

Wantage police are preparing their third annual charity concert.

The event, which takes place in Wantage Civic Hall on Saturday, April 21, is widely regarded as one of the musical highlights of the town's year.

It will feature the Waterloo Band and Bugles of the Royal Green Jackets and The Royal Rifles, based at Slade Barracks in Headington, Oxford. Proceeds from the show will be donated to the Wantage Hospital Trust Fund, the Wantage Silver Band and the Helen House hospice in east Oxford.

Last year's concert raised about £2,500 for the PC Pete Butler Memorial Fund, which is named after the late Wantage police officer.

Sgt Bob Maskell said: "These concerts are always sell-outs and this will be no exception. They are spectacular and entertaining and the quality of music sends tingles down your spine."

Tickets priced £7, or £5 for senior citizens and people in groups, are available from the Wantage Police Station and the Tourist Information Centre in the Vale and Downland Museum, which are both in Church Street, or from Smith's DIY in Millbrook Square, Grove.
