The new company taking over west Oxfordshire's council housing has yet to find a headquarters.

The official transfer of the district council's 3,600 homes and tenants is next Monday, but the company is still to find permanent offices.

David Walters, chief executive of West Oxfordshire Housing, said: "We have several options we are looking at in Witney and I expect we will be in our own accommodation within two to three months."

Meanwhile, the company will operate from the offices of the council's housing department at Church Green, Witney.

Tenants voted by a resounding majority to switch landlords in autumn last year. The new non-profit-making company has promised rent increases of no more than one per cent above the annual inflation rate - something the council could not match. The right to buy remains intact.

Wherever the company sets up office, tenants will still be able to pay their rents through the council's cash offices at Church Green and The Guildhall in Chipping Norton, added Mr Walters.

The building services office remains at Market Square, Witney, and the direct labour force depot at Station Lane, Witney.

The council still remains the local housing authority, responsible for commissioning new social housing and dealing with people in need.

Its housing department will continue at Church Green until a new office development is built at New Yatt Road, on the site of the former Elmfield Conservative Club.
