Banbury United continued their climb up the Dr Martens Eastern Division table while most of the rivals were hit by Saturday's weather.

Thanks to a small band of club members, the Stadium pitch was passed fit following an inspection in the morning, and Stamford must have wished that the snow had reached as far as Banbury.

Kevin Brock's side got off to a flying start with George Redknap seeing an early effort hit the side netting before they opened the scoring after three minutes.

Jon Corbett's cross-shot evaded everyone and deceived Stamford 'keeper Steve Corry as it flew into the net.

Banbury pushed forward looking for a second, and Matty Gooderick went close before home keeper Simon Tricker pulled off a great save from Shaun Keeble to deny Stamford an equaliser.

Fifth-placed Stamford came under a good deal of pressure which soon led to another goal. Corbett fed Mark Essex, who turned sharply before slotting home.

Stamford found it difficult to contain the lively Gooderick, and just three minutes later, Banbury got a well-deserved third.

Gooderick was flattened by a crude challenge from a Stamford defender, but he exafted full revenge following some treatment. Adrian Fuller's free-kick was met in the six-yard box by Gooderick, whose glancing header diverted the ball into the far corner of the net.

Within five minutes of the restart, Banbury managed to hit the woodwork twice in the same attack through Nick McCrae and Redknap and Stamford hung on to survive a testing second half.
