Three elderly sisters and a brother who have raised £34,775 over 12 years for a cancer charity have been described as "unsung heroes" by a local treasurer of the Leukaemia Research Fund.
May Smith, 70, Amy Brown, 77, Flo Galliford, 65, and Chip Smith, 78, of St George's Road, Wallingford, have raised an average of nearly £3,000 a year for the charity for every year since 1988.
The close-knit family team sent a £2,300 cheque from last year's fundraising initiatives to Janet Lambert, treasurer of Reading and District Branch of the LRF.
The money, which goes towards the Great Ormond Street charity's research costs, was raised through an Easter bingo, a street collection and a series of car boot sales. Amy also sells homemade cakes and Chip sells handmade wheelbarrows and wishing-wells.
Mrs Lambert said: "They are all fairly elderly now but they've plodded on with this important work for years. They certainly are unsung heroes."
