AN Oxford mother of two, who received devastating injuries in a 1992 horror crash when an out-of-control car she was travelling in somersaulted off the road, is to receive more than £1m damages.

The level of damages for trainee hairdresser, Joanne Selley, 32, of Juxon Street, Oxford, has yet to be assessed but experts say she will receive more than £1m because of the extent of her injuries.

She would, however, have received even more than she will eventually get but for the fact it has been agreed that she must bear 30 per cent of the blame for what happened.

The court was told that Miss Sealey got into the car even though she knew that the driver had been drinking.

The accident happened along the A4142 road at Cowley on September 6, 1992, when the Austin Allegro car, hit a roundabout and somersaulted off the road. It was being driven by Lorraine Green, of Boulter Street, Cowley.

Today, at London's High Court, Mr Justice David Steel was told that agreement had been reached and damages are to be awarded to Ms Selley on the basis that she must bear 30 per cent of the responsibility for what happened.

However, the judge was told that no figure had yet been set and at today's brief hearing he was told by Ms Selley's counsel, David Matthew that lawyers would now attempt to settle the final figure.

No details of Ms Selley's injuries were revealed in court.
