JANE Hill knew she'd feel a little chilly, but when she agreed to have her head shaved for the Tobi Mills £10,000 Appeal she had no idea how much it was worth to friends and family to see her bald!

Jane, 36, who lives in Wingate Close, Blackbird Leys, wanted to do something to boost the fund quickly and raised almost £900.

She said: "Initially I thought of going on a sponsored slim but that would take a while, so I thought of a sponsored headshave.

"Tobi has lost her hair through chemotherapy, so I thought it would be nothing in comparison to lose mine for the appeal."

Hairdresser Lisa Smith, of Trimmers hairdressers in Blackbird Leys Road, agreed to do the headshave free of charge and brought her clippers along to the Blackbird Leys Social Club, where friends and family gathered to watch Jane's hair fall. "I'm feeling a little light-headed," joked Jane after the haircut, which was complete in less than ten minutes. Ive got a baseball cap to wear if it gets chilly."

Tobi, who is suffering from secondary cancer of the liver, popped in to see the headshave and meet wellwishers. She was also presented with a cheque for £303.50 for the appeal, raised through a raffle by members of Blackbird Leys Social Club.

Schoolfriends of Tobi's ten-year-old twins, Ashton and Lauren, have shown their support for their chums by raising more than £500 for the appeal through a marathon fundraising day.

Children at Lawn Upton School, Littlemore, held a variety of money-spinning events including a sponsored good behaviour session, a no school uniform day, a sponsored silence and a cake sale.

Headteacher Glinys Weller said: "The demand came from children who wanted to do something for the Mills twins. If you had watched their class you wouldn't have known the fundraising was about them - they were just two ordinary children."

Ashton and Lauren have continued attending school throughout their mum's illness. YOU can pledge money on 01865 205192 or by fax on 01865 242569, or at any Lloyds Bank, quoting sort code 30-12-51 and account number 0088442. Cheques should be made payable to The Tobi Mills 10,000 Appeal
