Oxford City Stars made a sparkling start under new coach Paul Donohoe with a 15-0 thrashing of struggling Solent Sharks in the English National League.

Veteran Donohoe has taken over coaching duties to allow Dan Prachar to concentrate on playing.

And it seemed to work as Prachar, who remains junior club head coach, scored five points, with a goal and four assists from defence.

It took Oxford ten minutes to open the scoring with an unassisted effort from Dean Francis.

A couple of minutes later, Prachar set up Darren Elliott to tip home his first goal and then some good passing play, involving Alan Green and Prachar, led to Elliott's second.

Ben Lehmann notched another for the Stars before the break as Oxford finished the first session 4-0 ahead.

Stars continued in the same vein in the second period with goals coming at regular intervals through Green (2), Marlon Williams and Elliott, who completed his hat-trick.

Sharks began to tire in the third period, and Prachar followed up on a play to knock home a rebound in the second minute.

A minute later, Andy Cox burst through the Solent defence and knocked the puck low to the netminder's left for a fine solo goal.

Nick Eden then ventured up the ice to score a powerplay effort, before Williams netted his second.

A minute later, Oxford were short-handed with Danny Sturgeon sitting out play with a charging penalty.

But it didn't stop the goal spree as Green carried the puck up the ice before finding Elliott to shoot home from just outside the goal crease.

Nick Oliver tapped home a good pass from Cox for Oxford's second powerplay goal, and there was still time for Williams to complete his first hat-trick.

It was also Stars first shutout of the season with Andy Webster, making a rare start, turning aside 14 shots.

The match also saw 15-year-old Lewis Kemp, from Cumnor, appear as linesman for the first time in a senior league game.
