A TEENAGER spoiled St George’s Day in Didcot by stealing the flag flying at the Civic Hall.

The St George’s Cross had been hoisted on the town council’s flagpole to celebrate England’s patron saint’s day on Friday.

But that evening, the hall’s manager found it had disappeared.

A CCTV camera recording shows two boys walking towards the Civic Hall at about 3.15pm on St George’s Day.

One of them was then seen to disappear into the bushes outside the hall.

He lowered the flag and was then seen on the recording walking off with it.

Thames Valley Police spokesman Daniel Donovan said the teenager is aged about 13. He is about 5ft 4in tall and of slight build. He was wearing a blue top, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

Town mayor Margaret Turner said: “It’s completely mindless and just makes me so cross.

“We were all trying to celebrate St George’s Day and we just don’t want this to happen.

“It’s a real shame, because it was against the spirit of the whole day.”
