Sir – I am writing on behalf of the Ruskin College Students’ Union with regard to the article: Deal is finally done for Ruskin sale (April 15).

You mention in your article the reservations felt by some about the sale to fund the redevelopment of the Headington campus, and we would like to reinforce those sentiments.

The feeling amongst students here is that there has been too little consultation with students over the plans, and many questions remain unanswered as to how the plans will affect both students and staff at the college, and our collective future.

Also among our concerns is the fact that the site at Walton Street was chosen specifically to allow less well-off people to enjoy the Oxford experience, and to serve as a reminder to the other Oxford colleges that those who come to education from a variety of backgrounds, like those at Ruskin do, can do as well in education as anybody else.

Moving to the outskirts of the city seems to do a disservice to the ideals the college was founded upon.
