VILLAGERS are organising a mountain bike challenge to raise cash for their village hall.
‘Uptonogood’ will take place on Sunday, June 20, at Upton, near Didcot.
Organisers hope more than 200 people will turn out for the rides, ranging in length from five to 45 miles along off-road tracks through the North Wessex Downs.
Organiser Mike Tibbetts, pictured, right, with co-organiser Bobb Lott, left, said: “We hatched the idea over a pint one night, and are looking to make this an annual event.”
He added the five-mile route was suitable for familes with young children, while the 45 miles ride was for experienced riders wanting a full day’s ride.
Entry costs £10 to £12 per rider, and camping in the village is available the night before for £5.
The day is sponsored by Didcot’s Mountain Mania Cycles, which will be offering free safety checks on bikes before the event and on the day.
Mr Tibbetts said they hoped to raise £3,000 to £5,000.
