SCOTTISH indie-pop band Teenage Fanclub and members of US art-rock act Mercury Rev have been named as the surprise headliners for this summer’s Truck Festival in south Oxfordshire, oxfordmail.co.uk can exclusively reveal.

The Glasgow four-piece, and New York ‘dream pop’ experimentalists Mercury Rev Film Project, were today revealed as the latest additions to the bill for the 13th annual gathering at Hill Farm, Steventon, near Didcot.

Other new names for the weekend of July 24-25 include the stars of this month’s Oxford Folk Festival, Bellowhead - featuring Abingdon melodian player John Spiers - and Darwin Deez, Chapel Club, Blood Red Shoes, Elizabeth Cook, Brontide, and La Shark.

Danny & The Champions of the World - which stars Truck Festival founders brothers Robin and Joe Bennett, who live in the village, and local band Sealings will also play, say organisers.

The addional acts follow an earlier announcement of the first tranche of bands, which included Danish group Mew, Oxford rising stars Stornoway, and Oxford/Abingdon duo Little Fish, along with Egyptian Hip Hop, Los Campesinos!, Good Shoes, and Future of the Left.

The Bennett brothers are currently in ther USA, preparing for their first Truck in the USA Festival - which takes place close to the site of the original Woodstock festival, in upstate New York this weekend. But before leaving, Robin said he was delighted with the calibre of bands booked to play in Steventon.

He said: “We are well known for a DIY attitude and for first spotting the next big thing.

“Truck is one of the UK’s best and longest standing independent small festivals - a village fete meets Woodstock with a cutting-edge musical policy, free of any sponsorship or corporate agenda. Held in family friendly, safe and secure surroundings overflowing with entertainment, it’s about music, community and being outdoors.

“We carefully select the line-up and position the stages so people of all ages and tastes can enjoy the festival in the way that suits them best.“
