The casing of a Second World War bomb was found at RAF Brize Norton during building work.
A cordon was put up around the device, which was uncovered by a builder yesterday morning in a car park.
A bomb disposal unit removed the casing, which was found not to contain any explosives, during the afternoon. Operations at the airfield were not affected by the incident.
The west Oxfordshire base is undergoing major improvements to house more aircraft, including the RAF’s new fleet of air-to-air refuelling tankers and Hercules transport planes.
