Sir – Your letters page shows much concern amongst your readers about the impact of the county council decision to turn off the county's speed cameras.
Your front page (August 5) highlighted the expected dangers to villages and communities near the M40/M34 junction during the massive roadworks which are soon to begin there. How untimely!
This underlines that the turning off of the speed cameras was not just unwise, but potentially lethal.
Please can the county council listen to the pleas of the villagers and switch the speed cameras back on, at least until these roadworks are completed.
In another article, Cherwell School parents were begging for speed restrictions to protect young cyclists to and from the school. It is unlikely that their request will be heard, but the county council and David Cameron MP will face very serious anger if their decisions to cut off Oxfordshire’s speed cameras cost even one life.
It is a pity that neither the county council nor Mr Cameron listened to the voice of the Thames Valley Police on this matter.
