A SPECIAL steam visitor arrived at the Cholsey & Wallingford Railway today.
Great Western Railway tank locomotive No 6430 travelled to the railway from Llangollen, in Wales, as part of celebrations of the 175th anniversary of the GWR.
The 1930s locomotive will be running on the five-mile line for the next four weekends, with its visit finishing with Wallingford’s Bunk Fest, from September 4 to 5, when the railway’s history is celebrated in conjunction with a music festival on the Kinecroft.
The branch line’s shuttle train was known as the Bunk.
Spokesman George Thomas said: “The loco came down on a visit last year, but only for a weekend, so we’re delighted to have it for a month. It was a total wreck when its owner got hold of it 20 years ago and it has had a lot spent on it. It now looks a real treat.”
