THREE-year-old twins Lewis and Finn Jansen couldn’t understand yesterday why, for the second time in a week, vandals had destroyed the play garden at their pre-school.

Eighty children were told again that Shepherd’s Hill Pre-School, based within the grounds of Windale Primary School in Blackbird Leys, was shut yesterday.

Plants, posters and a window had been broken and left strewn across the grass, and mud and wet sand had been thrown at the windows and plastered over the outside walls, spelling out the words ‘You’re gay’.

Toys, pens and garden furniture had also been broken up and stamped into the ground.

On the primary school’s field, new goalposts, which had been bought with Tesco vouchers donated by parents and used by both schools, were damaged beyond repair.

However, despite being the second attack within a week, no police officer has been along to investigate. Thames Valley Police has, however, sent a Police Community Support Officer to speak to the children.

Lewis and Finn’s father Justin Jansen branded the vandalism “mindless”.

Mr Jansen, of Greater Leys, said: “It’s just horrible, after all the effort everyone put into sorting it out last time.

“The boys love the nursery. They look forward to painting and dancing when they go there.

“They’re only three and they don’t understand what’s happened or why someone would do this.”

It is the third time this year the school has been vandalised.

Staff and pupils arrived back after the summer holidays to find the garden in disarray, while last Monday staff at the pre-school discovered vandals had struck once again.

Guttering was pulled down, tables upturned and human faeces was later found in flower pots.

Sarah Pearson, manager of the pre-school, said the damage from the last two attacks would cost more than £500 to repair in total.

She said: “It’s just soul-destroying. After all the hard work to get it back in order after last time, and it’s completely destroyed again.

“It’s so upsetting for everyone, especially the children. It’s not nice having to come in every Monday wondering whether it’s happened again.”

Dianne Carbon, assistant headteacher of Windale Primary, said: “Many of the children in the primary school have either gone to the nursery themselves or have brothers and sisters who attend the nursery, so this is upsetting for a lot of people.

“I suppose police are doing what they can, we just don’t want this to become a pattern.

“Surely people have got better things to do with their time?

“I hope anyone who knows anything will come forward.”
