OXFORD United players will have poppies on their shirts for Saturday’s match at Rotherham United before selling them off to raise money for the Poppy Appeal.
The club announced it was creating the one-off shirts yesterday and then offering them for fans to buy, signed and framed.
The move comes as football clubs across the country are being urged to sport poppies in tribute to the men and women who have sacrificed their lives in conflict.
The shirts will cost £125 plus VAT, or £150 plus VAT if a fan requests a specific player’s shirt. The poppy emblem has been ironed on.
Club spokesman Chris Williams said: “This is a unique opportunity for fans to purchase the player’s own, limited-edition shirts.”
Shirts will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis and all money raised will be donated to the appeal.
