POLICE are warning people to beware of a bogus timeshare, which has tricked dozens of people out of thousands of pounds.

Golden Sands Marketing, which uses an address in Banbury, has been cold-calling people wanting to sell them timeshares, and telling them a buyer has been lined up.

Owners are then asked to send an administration fee of £1,000 to proceed with the deal, and some owners have even been invited out to Spain to meet the buyers.

Police have so far intercepted more than 130 letters sent to a mailbox in Horsefair, Banbury, from people who have paid up.

Officers have closed down the mailbox and have been working with the Serious Organised Crime Agency to close down the firm’s website.

  • A 55-year-old man from Banbury is on police bail after being arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud in September and is due to answer bail in January.
