SO Chris Robins thinks Keith Mitchell lives in Cloud Cuckoo Land (ViewPoints, November 22).

Having read Mr Robins’s elementary summary of how a major economy works, I imagine he must still believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy.

Paying people from Government coffers to do ‘non-jobs’ in the public sector is not a strategy that any of the major economies is following and even Mr Robins’s own Labour Party admits that large public sector cuts are unavoidable.

We all know it. We don’t have to like it but welcome to Britain, post-13 years of Labour rule.

The current Government has a tough but necessary job to do and Keith Mitchell and his team, along with many councils up and down the country, will play an important part in piecing our broken economy back together again.

Chris Robins should put his weight behind this drive to help repair the damage his party has done, instead of giving us fiscal insights that no serious economist would recognise as anything other than fantasy.
