A driver has been killed in a crash involving a gas tanker and two vans on the M40 in north Oxfordshire.
The road is still shut southbound between junction ten at the Cherwell Valley Services and junction nine for the A34 and Bicester.
The crash happened at about 7am.
The Highways Agency has said the road could be closed all morning while police carry out investigation work.
Queues on the southbound carriageway stretch back almost to junction 11 at Banbury.
Police were allowing southbound traffic trapped between junction nine and junction ten to pass the scene of the crash in the outside lane.
Very slow traffic is also reported on the A43 and the B430.
