What an incredible waste of money it is for Parliament to be discussing whether prisoners should be allowed to vote or not.

Talk now is of referring each individual case to the courts and contesting it with the European ruling. Withholding from prisoners the right to vote could cost the Government £143m in compensation claims.

To begin with, it’s unlikely many prisoners are actually interested in voting.

One Tory MP, David Davis, was heard to say: “If you break the law, should you be allowed to make the law?”

Perhaps that should be explained clearly to one or two Peers sitting in the House of Lords. R Lee Burford Road Witney
