OXFORD is the 13th most congested city in Europe, according to a new survey.
The city is one of 16 in the UK that made the top 50 in the table compiled by satnav company TomTom.
According to its data, cars in Oxford were snarled up 29 per cent of the time. The only UK cities with worse jams were London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Bradford and Belfast.
Cambridge came 48th in the UK list.
The worst place in Europe was Brussels, which was described as 38.9 per cent congested. Roads were counted as congested when drivers’ speed fell to 70 per cent or less of the limit.
Marcus Mabberley, spokesman for Oxfordshire County Council, which is responsible for roads, said: “Oxford is a medieval city that was never designed to cope with cars.”
