A CONVOY of pensioners are proving they were born to be wild, thanks to a donation of new electric mobility scooters.

Residents of Marston Court care home, in Marston Road, have been spotted around Oxford, after taking delivery of their new vehicles.

Activities co-ordinator Paul Lucas said: “We have had five scooters donated by the families of some of the residents.

“So when it’s a nice day, we just head off. It gives them that bit of independence. They absolutely love it.”

Recent trips have included visits to the Milham Ford Nature Park, other local parks and shops around Marston.

They are also planning a bigger trip to the University Parks today.

Mr Lucas added: “People love it when they see them going along in their duck-like fashion.

“They wave at them and the residents wave back. They especially like it when the children wave at them.”

Sid Kyffin, 88, right, a former landlord of the King’s Arms pub, in Holywell Street, said: “It gives me a sense of freedom to go out into the fresh air.”

Jean Sawyer, 89, left, said: “If I didn’t have a scooter to use, I would hardly get out at all.”
