‘USE of the strike weapon is a bad lesson to our children.”

Those were the words last night of county council leader Keith Mitchell as thousands of teachers prepared for industrial action tomorrow over pensions.

Most of Oxfordshire’s children will feel some impact from the strike action.

There is an overwhelming argument to suggest teachers should never contemplate striking.

Tomorrow is going to be a pain for many people. Make no mistake.

It is made even more frustrating that it seems to have been done in such a hotch-potch manner.

The county council was not even clear yesterday exactly how many schools would be closed.

And, one would imagine, the same headache has been served up for headteachers as well.

Michael Gove was indeed right when he said the public have a very low tolerance for anything that disrupts their hard-working lifestyles.

But the Oxford Mail has also received a lot of support from people backing the teachers.

There is also something to be said for standing up for what you believe in, and making a stand.

It also seems this could be the first of many strike days in the coming months.
