Sir – As a regular bus passenger between Abingdon and Oxford I can’t say I share Keith Mitchell’s view that the Oxford Smart Zone joint-ticketing scheme is a “win-win” situation for passengers.
My four-weekly Abingdon Route Card has increased from £45 to a massive £52, a change that was only discovered last week when my Key card was topped up online.
Details of this, and the other fare increases that took place on July 24, are hidden away on the Oxford Bus Company website. A good time to bury bad news?
The Oxford Bus Company have told me that “as part of the Transform Oxford transition we have reviewed all of our fares”.
However, my bus pass does not allow me to take advantage of any of these changes and there is no effective alternative to the company’s X3 and X13 routes if it did.
It is regular, and presumably bus-dependent, passengers who are bearing the brunt of this so-called review. Single and return fares between Abingdon and Oxford have not been increased.
