Sir – Your article (August 4) regarding the introduction of charges by Oxford City Council for the garden waste collection only proves that this was nothing more than a money-spinning objective.
The council should not be proud of the fact that it has made over £250,000 through this scheme.
If John Tanner wants a cleaner, greener Oxford, then I suggest the council dips into its £5m reserves, which I assumed was there to use in challenging times, rather than penalising those who wish to recycle more.
