Sir – The comment by Mr Bowen (Letters, August 4) concerning the non-use of cycle paths by cyclists as somehow inoffensive, because they have the right to cycle on the road, misses an important point.
Odd though. the cycle lanes might be they are there for safety — not for curiosity value.
Labouring behind a fully kitted out cyclist — or worse still a flotilla of lycra-clad, helmeted cyclists — honking along a busy, winding, A road, is exasperating.
Why an A road? They are clearly cycling for kicks and not intent, so why take the heavily-used highways and worse still why ignore designated pathways for cyclists when the opportunity arises? Do they regard them as less than macho?
