I WRITE in response to your recent letters regarding tail-gating.

Mr Thomson states that tail-gating only happens because the vehicle in front is not going as fast as the vehicle behind. No.

The reason for tail-gating is that the vehicle behind is going too fast compared to other traffic.

If you get hit up the backside, does that mean that you are at fault for driving too slow?

He states that you can rectify the situation by putting your foot down. What a load of old tosh.

What about the driver that has only just passed his driving test and is still lacking confidence in heavy traffic, and touring caravans with a speed limit of 50mph.

Has he ever driven along the A34 during peak periods when there is no room to accelerate and you have a 40-ton lorry up your backside trying to intimidate you?
