I HAVE found the letters with reference to “horses and carriages coming to Oxford” rather amusing.

People today don’t seem to pick up after a horse has passed and left a deposit, like they used to. When I was a boy and a horse lifted its tail as it went up the road, the emission was on someone’s shovel or in their bucket before it hit the ground. Then it was neatly recycled around their roses before the horse had got to the end of the road.

Will horse owners be fined for fouling the streets of Oxford as would a dog owner if they didn’t bag it and bin it?

After all, these emissions are all the same if trod in, whatever size they come in.

If horses do frequent the streets of Oxford on a daily basis, will the council invest in a mechanical shovel or will the piles be left there as traffic-calming measures.

It would be interesting to hear what the council’s policy would be on such a big issue.
