SOME lorry drivers using a Blackbird Leys road as an unofficial overnight truck stop are causing problems for neighbours.

Residents have complained rubbish is strewn on the ground and bushes and alleyways are being used as toilets.

And although councillors are considering action to stop large vehicles parking along Grenoble Road, they say there is no money to pay for a solution.

Blackbird Leys county councillor Richard Stevens said: “A lot of people have talked about this when we’ve gone round to their houses.

“And we’ve had a lot of discussions about preventing it. People who live there are finding rubbish thrown into their gardens.

“And a lot of houses are quite close to where the lorries park, so they are having to look out on them.”

Mr Stevens said a solution could be a controlled parking zone to prevent lorries using the road.

But the Labour councillor added: “Unfortunately the county council don’t have the money to fund this at the moment.”

Residents said lorries were travelling to local businesses and parking in lay-bys along Grenoble Road to sleep.

Members from the Blackbird Leys police team said the issue had also been raised at various Neighbourhood Action Groups.

Pc Russell Stevenson said: “It’s quite difficult because as the police, there’s not a lot we can do other than patrol the area.

“We have had allegations of excrement thrown in bushes and alleys along there.

“But it’s perfectly legal for them to park where they are parking.”

He added: “Now whenever we see a lorry driver awake down there, we go and talk to them.

“It’s a friendly chat but also letting them know they can’t use the bushes as a toilet or anything like that.

“It’s not a prolific problem, but it is something we hear about quite a lot.”

Blackbird Leys Parish Council chairman Gordon Roper said: “We are looking into this because big lorries are parking up and causing a bit of a problem around the Green Hill area.”

He added it may be possible to obtain an order banning lorry parking, but there was no current funding to do so.
