Sir – On reading Karl Wallendszus’s letter followed by John Tanner’s, (November 17) I would like to make the following observation.
I was very touched by Mr Wallendszus’s concern for those in fuel poverty and hence low incomes, being a pensioner.
Those on low income cannot afford to invest in solar panels or even afford to borrow money to do so. Nor do they have the wherewithal to bring their house up to a reasonable level of insulation.
Solar panels are only for the well off, and increasing feed-in tariffs only puts more money into their pockets at the expense of the worst off. I already have five per cent added to my energy bills to pay towards the feed-in tariff. In effect, the poor are being taxed to pay for the well off. The Robin Hood ideals in reverse. The Sheriff of Nottingham must be laughing all the way to the bank.
