Sir – How nice to see that at least one person read my letter in your November 10 edition ie Mr Roger Moreton of Oxford.
Mr Moreton takes issue with my use of the word ‘droppings’ which he suggests refers to ‘pigeon produce and such, valuable only when amassed as mature guano’.
May I draw his attention to the Oxford English Dictionary — my copy is the Ninth Edition.
‘Droppings — the dung of animals or birds’. ‘Guano — the excrement of seabirds, found especially on islands off S. America and used as manure’.
Pigeons do not appear to come into the guano equation. Enough of this h*******t!
