THIS is just a note to encourage the re-naming of Abingdon to Abingdon-on-Thames, as mentioned in the Oxford Mail this week.
As a resident of Oxford, I welcome the refreshing image the new name would give to Abingdon. I hope the subsequent preparations will include improving access to beauty spots and directions to the river for passing tourists.
No doubt the new name itself would attract fresh commerce, which would also be welcome to the area.
I look forward to the new naming ceremony.
