I was delighted to read that our country cousins would be happy to pay for parking at Thornhill Park & Ride on their way to London (Mail letters, November 24).

If the charge were a modest £5 per day, the councils (city and county) would not need to make some of the more inappropriate cuts, such as to libraries.

Neither would it be necessary to charge for parking in public parks, like Cutteslowe, which is surely a silly policy.

The type of person who uses Thornhill as an all-day, free car park, on their way to London for business appointments or pleasure, is surely a better target for savings than the mothers pushing their prams in the park for an hour or two.
