I’M SURE that all residents are delighted by the city council’s decision to axe its plans to build on Headington car park.

Thanks are due to hardworking businesses, residents and Lib Dem councillors, Ruth Wilkinson and David Rundle, all of whom successfully campaigned against this scheme and were united in their determination to maintain this vital facility.

I was therefore very surprised to receive a flyer from Jane Darke and the Labour Party, claiming credit for the reversal of the decision. Indeed, Roy Darke, the Labour Party county councillor, has been a strong advocate of the scheme, saying: “The principle of building over car parks is eminently reasonable. In fact it is essential to use any brownfield land in Oxford.”

This flyer would appear to be Jane Darke’s first attempt to be associated with the campaign to save Headington car park. Credit must go not to her but to everyone else involved from the beginning.
