LURKING behind the door of the day two Badvent calendar is Catiusa Rostas, who police believe specialises in fleecing pensioners of their jewellery.

The cops want to question Rostas, right, about a theft at 4pm on May 9 in Moorland Road, Witney, and two other crimes that share a striking similarity with it.

The victim – a woman in her 70s – was stopped by a woman of eastern European appearance who asked for directions.

The crook then thanked her for her help and put some jewellery around her neck before driving off – having stolen the elderly woman’s own gold necklace.

Two other victims have reported similar crimes, which police think could also be linked to Rostas.

At about 10.30am on September 10, two women, one of them matching Rostas’ description, approached a 60-year-old man in Woodstock Close, North Oxford, and asked for directions to the JR, said Pc Dawn Evans. While he was directing them, the women took cheap jewellery out of a bag and started putting it around his neck, piling on more as he objected.

In the confusion he didn’t realise that they were stealing his own gold chain necklace.

In a third incident, at 11.15am on September 20, a man in his 70s was shopping in Market Square, Witney, when he was approached by a woman who asked him for directions to Milton Keynes.

As he helped her she was joined by another person who spoke to him to create a distraction, before he noticed his wallet on the ground and picked it up.

Later he found his debit card was missing and had been used to withdraw cash.

Pc Evans urged anyone with information about Rostas’ whereabouts to call her on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
