CHRISTMAS is a busy time for everyone, particularly Santa Claus.

He arrived at Debenhams in Oxford in a horse-drawn carriage in 1977 – he is seen in Picture One with nine-year-old Kim Donohoe.

But by 1984, he had gone upmarket, travelling to the store in the vintage car which starred in the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Picture Two shows him waving to the crowds as the City of Oxford Silver Band provided music behind.

Stan Eustace, left, and Barry Watson, seen in Picture Three, took part in a sponsored walk from the Two Brewers pub at Thame in 1990 to raise money for a senior citizens’ Christmas party.

Butchers kept up a smile, despite being bombarded with orders for turkeys and other Christmas fare.

Picture Four shows two members of staff at Dewhursts in Summertown, Oxford, in 1984.
