A BICESTER-based college has been put on the map after becoming a centre of excellence in its field.

The Performance Engineering Centre, part of Oxford and Cherwell Valley College, in Telford Road, has become a leader in composite skills — the manufacture of carbon fibre parts used in automotive, aviation and marine sectors.

The motorsports college is the founding training provider for the new Composites Skills Alliance, and will basically lead the way in the industry.

It will be a central hub testing other colleges to make sure they are up to scratch, as well as providing bespoke courses to firms across the industry.

OCVC Head of Engineering Andy Thomas said: “This will definitely put the college on the map.”

Composites lecturer Paul Hamlin said: “Students get specific training suitable for industry, which makes them a more employable.”
