MIKE Rowley and Van Coulter both replied to my letter about the plans for the cricket ground in Barton Road (Thursday’s Oxford Mail ViewPoints). They seem to misrepresent what I said.
Of course I never asserted that the city council “owns” the land in question – that expression is a misleading one as, in point of fact, the city council does not own anything.
The city council merely runs things on behalf of the people of the city, who are the true owners.
But the way these Labour councillors talk about things being owned or not owned by the council reveals that their attitude is that they do own them.
