Sir – Exactly four years ago, while a Green county councillor, I was arrested in the city centre for attempting to prevent a dozen mature plane trees from being pre-emptively chopped down, to make way for the Westgate redevelopment.
I was, therefore, interested to read in your paper last week (January 12) that the city council hopes work on the redevelopment might start as early as 2014.
What a relief it is that in all this time, those unsightly, mature trees no longer blight the views of the city centre, while the beautiful shopping centre and multi-storey car park remain.
