SIX men are in custody on suspicion of attempting to steal a “large quantity” of cable from a firm in Yarnton.

The men, believed to be Romanian, were arrested after a police chase involving the force helicopter and dog team.

A fence surrounding Oxford Business Park, Oxford Road, Yarnton, was broken on Monday, January 16, at about 11pm.

It is believed thieves were attempting to steal rolls of cable from a business on the industrial estate.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw any suspicious vehicles in the area on Monday night to come forward.

Det Sgt Steve Birchall said: “Businesses are struggling enough in this financial climate without people stealing from them.

“This was clearly an organised team who we believe have come from outside the area.

“They cut the fence and were going to remove a large amount of cable. This cable was on wheels.”

Anyone who can help should call Dc Mark Personius, of Banbury CID, on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
