FOLLOWERS of fashion flocked to Oxford’s Town Hall to make the most of last season’s clothes.

The ReFashion event yesterday was designed to encourage people to repair, re-use and swap unwanted clothes rather than throw them away.

Paul Mocroft, communications officer for Oxfordshire Waste Partnership, said “It’s been a fantastic day and exceeded our expectations. We’ve had more than 250 visitors in the first two hours.

“We wanted to show people that it’s not just about sending old clothes to charity shops. It’s about rediscovering old skills such as sewing, crafting and repairing.”

Fashion shows demonstrating how clothes can be transformed took place during the day, including a choreographed catwalk display by fashion and make-up students from Oxford & Cherwell Valley College.

Pupils from Cutteslowe Primary School also presented their work.

Charities including Helen and Douglas House, Sobell House and the Air Ambulance will benefit from proceeds raised by the event.
